Greetings from my room!

and Happy New Year!
I trust you are all doing well!
Here are a couple of quick updates from me and my cut-out friends:
Some of my collages featuring beautiful leading ladies of the cinema are available to buy from Audrey Grace Boutique! If you are in Jackson, MS, you can pay a visit to the shop filled with vintage and exclusive clothes, accessories and artwork, and if you are not so lucky, I believe you can buy things online (visit the facebook page for that).
Also, I couldn't miss the opportunity to participate in a competition organized by Secret7s in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. The challenge was to provide a cover design for the chosen songs. Here are two of the ones I made for Ben Howard and DJ Shadow, I also made a collage design for CSS, and drawings for The Cure , Bombay Bicycle Club and Florence and the Machine. I really got in the spirit of illustrating songs, so couldn't stop on submitting just one piece :) Hope you like them! Evening, friends!

I prepared this collage attack for you at New Year's! Do you like them? I very much hope so. In my other blog, I wrote some things I'm thankful for in 2011 and here, I just want to say thank you for reading and looking at my collage world - it feels like I'm doing what I really must when I read your comments and get your wonderful emails! You absolutely rock, all of you! So here's my NY resolution and a wish for you as well:

Dream and travel, even if it is an inner journey, never never give up what you love, and feel your strength.

Also,a little more magic in our lives won't hurt, don't you agree?

Good afternoon my dear readers
It's been a while, hasn't it? That's because i've been busy being lazy. Very soon my holiday comes to an end, so I'm taking my time to enjoy it. Are you having an adventurous summer?
My new collage is called "Grace in Space", it's actually mixed media. I enjoy adding drawn elements into collages, as you might have noticed. I also added it to my shop (only originals there) along with another Grace collage. Please let me know if you want to see anything else in it!

Also, one of my customers, and incidentally a very talented artist and illustrator Judith Clay (whose work you should absolutely check out) kindly sent me the photos of her beautiful wall with my collages. So nice to see them framed and in such a great company, too!

Bonsoir, Mesdames et Messieurs!
Mes 3 ans de français ne vont pas en vain! Mais je n'ai pas parle pendant 5 ans! Pour éviter la honte et les erreurs, je vais écrire en anglais.
(oooh that was a challenging start!!)
So... I took a break from odd themes and dark collages and gave way to .. sweet romance! not only sweet, but also French!
Here's another piece for Audrey Grace Boutique which will open this November in Jackson, Mississippi, the USA (owned by the wonderful Jaclyn Bethany). It's inspired by Jacques Demy's Les Parapluies de Cherbourg starring the beautiful Catherine Deneuve.
I watched this movie only once a very long time ago - I was about 8 at the time (come to think of it, I watched all the best films at this age haha) I was very keen on musicals, and couldn't miss this one. It was gorgeous. Still can't forget that final scene at the petrol station. Catherine Deneuve looks angelic in every scene and I don't even know what to say about the music by Michel Legrand... I'll just post a video for you. C'est absolument magnifique!

Rear Window

Here's another collage I made for the Audrey Grace Boutique It features Grace Kelly (and also James Stewart) in Rear Window. Grace Kelly for me is, first of all, a Hitchcockian actress. (i can go on and on about Hitch, I'm a fan) Rear Window was the first movie by Alfred Hitchcock that I saw and it was also the first time I saw beautiful Grace Kelly ( remember those dresses she wore in it?!!) on screen. I think I was about 7 or 8 at the time and you can't imagine how I loved it. It has since become one of my favourite movies. Everything in it is a work of genius, maybe a bit naive, a bit dated, but there's so much detail and charm to it. At this tender age (being very silly) I was foolishly hoping that by spying on my neighbours as James Stewart did I could reveal some kind of a secret plot. Nothing like that happened, but i spent a couple of evenings on my balcony with binoculars hiding behind the flowers pots. I think all i could see were the curtains and cats behind them. Very well, enough of these reminiscences, here's my take on Rear Window

I have had a great pleasure to create some work (both collages and drawings) for Audrey Grace Boutique which will open this November in Jackson, Mississippi and which is run by the very stylish Jaclyn Bethany. Visit the shop's facebook page to keep an eye for updates.

How have you been?
Do you read All Pencils of Mine are Sugar-Plums at all? :) If you do (please do lovely people :) , you might know that i've been rediscovering some music from past years, and in my avid obsession with Faith No More I came across Mike Patton's solo work, which is crazy, crazy, crazy and which infected me so much that i have now hayfever haha. Anyway, this piece is in Italian, it's by Ennio Morricone and it's the most beautiful thing i heard in a long time. Got me plotting different amazing plans in my head. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do, some visual effects for you in the shape of my collages!

Hello lovely people! Thought I'd make some inspiration posts as I'm doing this kind of thing on my other illustration blog here All Pencils of Mine Are Sugar-plums So I thought I'd start in the very beginning.. and finish in the end haha!
So once upon a time I made my first ever collage and it was all because I was very much inspired by textile designs and art of Celia Birtwell. Her style is instantly recognisable, so unique and quirky and fantastic! I must say I enjoyed the process of making my first collage so much that I still engage into this whimsical procedure! Thank you for your comments, everyone: I'm still looking for possibilities of selling prints online, so stay tuned for that :)

It's also near Christmas time.Perhaps you don't know that in my country Christmas day is the 7th of January, but I celebrate both. New Year is more of a holiday here and we get major queues and frenzy on the New Year's Eve. That's why I'm still working and will be working on the 25th too, which sounds not very entertaining. I feel like I'm in need of a very long holiday which should involve some lying in the sun, swimming in the Ocean (preferably Indian) and sipping cocktails on the beach. ;) Instead I'll be at home, a bit cold, sipping hot tea and enjoying the smell of glue and paints.

Lunar Eclipse + my collage ritual

Here we go again! What wonders can a day off do! Lots of free time = lots of things accomplished + more collages on the way.
I often get asked about how I make them. I don't use photoshop, i think you can see it from the scans, maybe not. Anyway I never ever use it and genuinely disrespect it, although it has its advantages, of course. Like making the art or whatever process quicker. I have to admit I'm rather busy during the day what with all the work i have besides illustrating, but I prefer doing things with my hands and have contact with whatever I create.
So what I do is ask my friends not throw away magazines when they are done with them and keep mine, too. Then I usually have a heap of them in the centre of my room , I take scissors and cut, cut, cut!!! This, believe me, looks very much like a ritual (i usually do that alone so that nobody disrupts the process) and a great mess as well. Things that i look for in the magazines are different but the moment i see them, i know they are what i want. Sometimes I add my own drawings into collage, or pieces of my photos. This is the case with the Children series, which will hopefully be made into a beautiful book soon.
I also use colourful painted backgrounds which i love doing. I don't paint that often, but it brings me pleasure to add a bit of lively paint splatters into my collages. I hope very much you enjoy these two, which are celebrating today's lunar eclipse. somehow. take care. toodle-oo!

Why do people hate Mondays so much? i love Mondays, they make me very disciplined. As an evidence of this, I scanned my collages and updated my blog. I also cooked rice with vegetables and ate it. As I promised, here is my collage (oh no!! there are two of them!) starring Caroline (the winner of my ultra-exquisite contest!!)
I think I have to explain here. The green one's a sketch and the pink one is what happened next. Caroline's hat brought some alice-in-wonderland associations so the pink one looks like tweedle-dum and tweedle-dee :D Why all the animals?? I don't know whether it's that mad heat or just my laziness, but I'm feeling lost. I need to sort myself out and do something fun. (and look like this child in the collage!) For now I'm listening to Tracey Thorn and that doesn't cheer me up in the least. I think I should go for Elton John or T-Rex :) Anyway, what cheers you up? Do you have any suugestions?

I love to enter giveaways, so i thought I'd host one myself. Here's my first caption contest, where the winner will get this collage starring Charlize Theron and ..well, different animals :)

All you have to do is leave a comment with the most unusual, quirky, extraordinarily beautiful or whatever else you can think of CAPTION for this collage till the end of the month.
